Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. RoughInDesk publishes no market averages and quotes no survey: the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own. The pipe dimensions in the pipe-size tool are the published standard sizes, cited on that page.

A plumbing inventory spreadsheet is where most shops start and where many good ones stay for years: one tab per truck with the standard load, the count, the reorder point and the supplier, and a parts tab with the cost each part is bought at so the price book stays honest. The plumbing price book template on this site produces the parts tab with the cost and the markup, free and without an account; RoughInDesk Pro replaces the spreadsheet with the count kept by the invoice when two people need it at once.

The parts tab: cost, markup, supplier

Every part the company stocks, its cost from the last invoice, the markup, the supplier and the reorder quantity. This tab is the price book's parts side, which is why the price book template on this site produces it: one cost, read by both the book and the truck list.

The truck tabs: standard load and count

One tab per truck with the standard load: what the truck should carry, what it has, the difference. The tech updates the count from the invoices at the end of the day, or does not, which is where the spreadsheet starts to drift from the truck.

The reorder tab

Parts below their reorder point, by supplier, so the order is placed before the truck is empty. In a spreadsheet this is a filter someone has to remember to run; in Pro it is the list that appears when the invoice deducts the part.

When the spreadsheet stops working

Two trucks, one file; a tech who does not update it; a month-end count nobody does. Pro keeps the count per truck from the invoices, flags the reorder and produces the shrinkage report per truck, which is the report that changes behavior. From the vendors' own pricing pages: Tradify lists Lite at $47, Pro at $51 and Plus at $61 per user per month; Jobber lists Core at $49 per month for one user with additional users at $29 each; Housecall Pro lists Basic at $59 per month billed annually or $79 monthly. RoughInDesk Pro is $47 per month for the whole crew.

Plumbing inventory spreadsheet: common questions

Is the price book template free? Yes. It produces the parts tab with the cost and the markup with no account and no card. Pro adds the count per truck kept from the invoices.

What should the standard load be? The parts used every week on ordinary calls, in the quantities a week uses. Anything used less than monthly stays in the shop.

How do I stop the spreadsheet drifting from the truck? Count against it monthly and correct it, or let the invoice keep the count, which is what Pro does.
